Aponeurotic ptosis or age-related drooping eyelid. Aponeurotic ptosis occurs in late years of life. This is not a disease, but the normal appearance that comes with getting old. Usually, both eyes are affected, but one eyelid may be more dropped than the other one. Dropping occurs due to gravitation and stretching of eyelid tissue that prevents muscle which elevates the eyelid to function normally. The disorder appears gradually and it is not related to other symptoms. Following symptoms require urgent surgical intervention: sudden eyelid drooping, double vision (diplopia), slurred speech, weakness in arms and legs or a severe headache.

History of disease is being taken and physical examination is being done. CT scan or MRI-magnetic resonance of endocranium can be done in order to exclude other causes of eyelid dropping.
