Atypical lung inflammation

Description

Atypical pneumonia or atypical lung inflammation caused by bacteria Legionella pneumonia, Mycoplasma pneumonia, and Chlamydia pneumonia. These pneumonia are usually mild and sometimes are called “walking pneumonia” since a lot of patients get over them on their feet. Despite this name, these infections can be fatal, especially when the cause is Legionella.

Symptoms

A cough, elevated temperature, shortness of breath, tiredness, chest pain, rash, diarrhea.

Overview

History of disease is being taken and physical examination is being done. X-rays of lungs is being done to confirm the diagnosis. When necessary, a sputum culture is done to isolate exact cause.

Therapy

Antibiotics are necessary for treatment and the following ones have the most effect on the causes: erythromycin, azithromycin clarithromycin, fluoroquinolones and their derivatives and tetracyclines.
