AC (acromioclavicular) joint separation

Description

Twist or rupture of ligament between clavicle (collar bone) and shoulder.The injury is being assessed with grades between 1-6, where grade 6 means major damage of ligaments and surrounding structures. A Most usual way for injury of ligaments is to fall onto the shoulder, elbow or stretched out a hand.

Symptoms

Pain in the shoulder and deformity in the highest point of the shoulder. Decreased mobility of the shoulder.

Overview

Anamnesis will be taken and medical examination will be done. Diagnosis is set using X-rays or MRI.

CT scan, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and X-rays.

Therapy

Treatment depends on the level of ligaments rupture. Options for treatments are: monitoring, nonsteroidal anti-inflamatory drugs (brufen/ibuprofen, naproxen), paracetamol, physical therapy and / or surgical correction.
