Abdominal trauma

Description

There are two reasons: penetrating injuries that come out as a consequence of wounding by air weapon or stabbing by knife or blunt injury, which come out as the result of a car accident or fall. Any organ can be injured, for example bowels, stomach, liver, spleen, kidneys or aorta.

Symptoms

Pain in abdomen, vomiting, puffiness, blood in urine, blood in stool, dizziness, low blood pressure.

Overview

Anamnesis is taken and physical examination is done. CT scan, magnetic resonance imaging and /or ultrasound of abdomen should be done in order to determine organs that are hurt.Severity of disease could be determined by blood analysis.

Tests

Complete blood count (CBC), biochemical analysis of blood, CT scan, lipase, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, urine analysis and X-rays.

Therapy

Depends of injury, but it can include observation, intravenous fluids, blood transfusion and/or surgery.
